This is a new build with all new components. This is one build in my attempts to put together the most economical keyboard possible that retains the feel and sound of a premium build. It has the following features:
gummy worm " Bakeneko Style " mount
flex cut Plain60 flex edition PCB
FR4 half plate
JWICK linear switches lubed and filmed with TX 16mm 60g springs - 65g on the space bar
holee mod with 5 mil UHMW tape on Everglide V2 stabilizers
case standoffs removed and clearance cut to allow PCB flex. Front standoffs replaced with small sorbothane blocks and rear standoffs with silicone tubing sections.
This board runs fast and smooth with a fun, bouncy typing experience due to the flex cut PCB and half plate. The alphas are well isolated and the sound profile with no foam or fillers is focused while retaining the distinctive switch characteristics. Polyfill or foam can be added to attenuate the flex, bounce, and sound but as tested there is none, and I feel the board does not need it. This is a gummy worm build, but uses 50 durometer silicone cord stock instead of a continuous O-ring to reduce cost and to allow for premium screw in stabilizers to be used. Full parts cost is in the timestamp for transparency.
This would be a perfect lightweight travel keyboard. . . or a low-cost option for someone thinking about getting into keyboards and wants to try the feel and sound of a custom but does not want to spend a fortune or muck with building it. . . or a gaming board that is fast, smooth, and doesn't offend in the coms mic.
I use a very similarly configured build as my daily driver and fully believe in the capabilities of this combination.
